What's a "geduget"? I really don't know. It came from an old dial-up account password. I anticipate creating some cool customizations and hope you enjoy them.
An educated take on the revolution of widescreen video aspect.

I've written a blogspot on selecting a widescreen monitor in the hope that it clears up some confusion about aspect ratio.

- Hope it helps.

If you are going to do it....get it right.

1440x900 is NOT 16/9 profile.

Your mathematical approach is entirely wrong.

The correct check is...'are the resolutions proportional to 16/9, or in other words, is the width 16/9 times the height?'...

"Look at the recommended resolution for the monitor you're considering. Can the numbers be divided evenly by 16 and 9 "

1600 is divisible evenly by 16.

180 is divisible evenly by 9

Ergo 1600x180 is widescreen profile?

it'd be seriously widescreen....

Where is the 180 figure comming from? My blog says 1600 divided by 16, and 900 divided by 9. Read completely before you post.

Jafo,
Aspect is notated as 16:9 (sixteen TO nine), not 16/9 (sixteen divided by nine).
I have certification for PC repair and have trained in video production.
I believe my facts are accurate. 16:9 aspect ratio means there are 16 equal parts
vertical and 9 equal parts horizontal - period.

Have you ever seen a recommended resolution of 1600x180? Of course not.
So why do you invent such a rediculous argument?

You left an important part out of your calculation; the quotients must be the same. This means the resolutions are proportional to 16/9. You really should take Jafo's word ... he knows a thing or two about mathmatics, dimensions, etc.

1600x900: (1600/16=100 and 900/9=100) - quotients are the same
1440x900: (1440/16=90 and 900/9=100) - quotients are not the same

It uses exactly the mathematics/reasoning in your 'blog'

1600 IS divisible evenly by 16

and 180 is divisible equally by 9 therefore it is a 16:9 format....

That is a direct quote of your math....exaggerated to show its error.

Read post #1 .....second line.

1440/900 does NOT equate to a ratio of 16/9

It is a ratio, plain and simple....divide the height by 9 and multiply by 16 and you get the width.

Any number that does NOT result using that math is NOT 16/9.

The 16 equal parts horiz and 9 equal parts vert MUST, that is MUST be the same 'parts', otherwise it is NOT a ratio at all of 16/9.

If your 'training in video production' has led you to your error I'd very STRONGLY suggest you request a refund for that training, as it is flawed....

1440/900 is actually 14.4 to 9 ...
